What is custom tissue paper used for?
Custom tissue paper is used to wrap products, line gift boxes, protect delicate surfaces and create a more polished unboxing experience. It is commonly used for clothing, cosmetics, skincare products, jewelry, gifts, accessories and other retail products.
It can be printed with a repeating logo, custom pattern, brand message or decorative artwork. Tissue paper can also be sealed with custom logo stickers to create a coordinated and easy-to-open package.
What tissue paper thickness or GSM should I choose?
The appropriate paper weight depends on the product, required opacity and desired folding characteristics. Lightweight tissue paper is soft, flexible and suitable for wrapping clothing or lining boxes, while a heavier paper provides better opacity, strength and surface protection.
A lower GSM allows more light to pass through the sheet and may show the product underneath. A higher GSM generally feels more substantial but may not fold as softly around small or irregularly shaped products.
Because paper weight can affect color, transparency and print appearance, reviewing a material sample before production is recommended.
Can you print a repeating logo or full custom pattern?
Yes. Tissue paper can be printed with repeating logos, diagonal patterns, illustrations, text or other custom artwork. The spacing and scale of the pattern should be selected according to the sheet dimensions and the size of the products being wrapped.
A simple one-color repeating logo is usually the most economical option. Large solid areas, heavy ink coverage and full-background printing may increase cost and can change the softness, appearance or handling characteristics of the paper.
The pattern should also be designed so that the branding remains visible after the tissue is folded around the product.
Can tissue paper be printed on both sides?
Tissue paper is thin and partially translucent, so printing on one side may remain visible from the reverse side. For many applications, one-sided printing is sufficient.
Two-sided printing may be technically possible for selected materials and designs, but it can create registration, show-through and ink-coverage challenges. Heavy printing on both sides may also affect the paper’s softness and increase the risk of ink transfer.
If both sides must display different information, a heavier or more opaque paper may be required. A physical sample should be evaluated before mass production.
Will the printed ink rub off or transfer onto the product?
Ink performance depends on the paper, ink system, print coverage, drying process, product surface and storage environment. Properly produced tissue paper should be allowed to dry and cure before it is packed or shipped.
Dark colors, metallic inks and large solid printed areas require particular attention because they may have a higher risk of rubbing or transferring onto light-colored, moist, oily or delicate products.
For clothing, leather goods, cosmetics or other sensitive items, the printed tissue should be tested in direct contact with the actual product under expected storage and transportation conditions.
Can custom tissue paper be used with food?
Tissue paper should only be placed in direct contact with food when the paper, ink and production process are specifically suitable and documented for the intended food-contact application.
Standard decorative tissue paper should not automatically be treated as food-safe. Requirements may differ depending on whether the paper touches dry food, oily food, confectionery or individually wrapped products, as well as the regulations of the destination market.
Please tell us whether the tissue paper will have direct or indirect food contact. For direct contact, the required compliance documents and material specifications should be confirmed before production.
What sheet sizes are available?
Custom tissue paper can be produced in different sheet dimensions according to the size of the product and its outer packaging. The sheet should be large enough to wrap or cover the product without creating excessive bulk inside the package.
When determining the size, consider the product dimensions, number of folds, required overlap and whether the tissue will line a box or completely wrap the item. Tissue paper can be supplied flat, folded or packed in sets, depending on the project.
For use inside custom gift boxes, providing the internal box dimensions helps determine a practical sheet size and folding method.
Can the tissue paper color match our boxes and bags?
Yes. CMYK or Pantone references can be used to coordinate the printed tissue paper with boxes, bags, stickers and other packaging components.
However, the same ink color may appear different on thin tissue paper, coated cardstock, kraft paper and fabric because each material absorbs and reflects ink differently. Exact visual consistency across different materials cannot be judged accurately from a screen alone.
When color consistency is important, all packaging components should be reviewed together using physical samples. Tissue paper can be coordinated with custom gift bags as part of a complete retail packaging set.
Are sustainable tissue paper options available?
Options may include recycled-content tissue paper, responsibly sourced paper, uncoated materials and simplified one-color printing, subject to material availability and project requirements.
Using less ink, avoiding unnecessary lamination and selecting an appropriately sized sheet may help reduce material use. If recyclability is a priority, any stickers, metallic printing, coatings or additional components used with the tissue should also be considered.
